Reunion is a collection of small works that explore light, form and gesture. Using light weight mulberry paper, I pre-fold a gestural form; then submerge the paper in molten wax and re-form. It is a process in tango with time and material. A collaboration happens between the paper and me... when I re-manipulate the material to its threshold, it tears or retakes its own path; I respond again.
Paper has memory when folded or changed. The wax adds stress and later stability. This interplay is relatable and metaphoric to the human experience. Paper to me, is the material embodiment of strength and delicacy, a dichotomic balance that calls me to it.
*Reunion signifies my return to this medium, the rest is butterflies and birds.
